Dr. Alex provides evaluation and treatment for a wide range of pelvic health concerns, including:

  • Urinary incontinence, frequency, urgency, or difficulty fully emptying the bladder

  • Constipation, fecal incontinence, or bowel dysfunction

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pelvic pain, including chronic prostatitis, vulvodynia, dyspareunia, coccyx pain, endometriosis, and irritable bowel syndrome

  • Sexual pain or dysfunction

  • Pregnancy care and postpartum recovery

  • Post-surgical rehabilitation, including hysterectomy, prostatectomy, and gender affirming surgeries

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction related to prior surgery, childbirth, or chronic straining

Pelvic Health Care for Women

Pelvic floor dysfunction can affect women at every life stage, not just after childbirth. Dr. Alex provides specific expertise in women's pelvic health, including urinary leakage or urgency, pelvic organ prolapse, concerns during pregnancy, painful intercourse and pelvic pain conditions such as vulvodynia and endometriosis, and pelvic floor changes related to menopause and perimenopause. Many women are told that leaking, pain, or pressure is just something to live with. It is not, and effective treatment is available at any age or life stage.

Pelvic Health Care for Men

Pelvic floor dysfunction in men is common and significantly underdiagnosed. Dr. Alex provides specific expertise in male pelvic health, including chronic prostatitis and pelvic pain syndrome, urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction following prostatectomy, and pelvic floor weakness or tension affecting bladder, bowel, or sexual function. Many men are never referred for pelvic floor physical therapy despite strong evidence supporting it, particularly after prostate cancer treatment.

Gender-Inclusive and Gender-Affirming Rehab

OncoPelvic PT welcomes all adults, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. Dr. Alex provides pre- and post-operative physical therapy for top and bottom surgeries, rehabilitation for pelvic and musculoskeletal changes related to hormone therapy, and support for pelvic and musculoskeletal concerns related to binding, tucking, packing, or other non-surgical gender-affirming practices.

What Your Pelvic Health Treatment May Include

  • Therapeutic exercise, including functional strengthening and mobility work

  • Pelvic floor muscle training, including both strengthening and relaxation techniques

  • Hands-on manual therapy, including scar mobilization

  • Biofeedback to help you understand and control your pelvic floor muscles

  • Rectal balloon training for bowel dysfunction

  • Bladder and bowel retraining strategies

  • Education on sexual health, body mechanics, and lifestyle factors that affect your symptoms

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your initial evaluation at OncoPelvic PT is 60 to 90 minutes, depending on the complexity of your concerns. Dr. Alex will take a thorough history of your symptoms, medical background, and goals, and observe your posture and movement. The external portion of the exam typically includes an assessment of your abdomen, back, hips, and pelvis.

An internal pelvic exam, vaginal or rectal, can provide valuable information about how your pelvic floor muscles are functioning, but it is entirely optional. Dr. Alex will explain what the exam involves and how it may help with your specific symptoms, and the decision is always yours. You are welcome to decline, ask questions, or stop at any point, and effective care can still move forward regardless of what you choose. Many people feel some nervousness about this part of care, and that's completely normal. You set the pace, and you are always in control.

You are also welcome to bring a support person to your appointment if that helps you feel more comfortable. You will leave your first visit with a clear picture of what is going on in your body, why it is happening, and a plan to address it that you help shape.

Fees and Insurance

OncoPelvic PT is a private-pay, out-of-network (OON) physical therapy practice. We do not bill insurance directly. Choosing this model allows for fully individualized care without insurance restrictions on your treatment plan.

Every session with Dr. Alex is delivered one-on-one in a private setting, in clinic or virtually, so your care fits your life as well as your needs. Appointments are never double booked or rushed, and include secure, direct messaging access between visits to support your progress.

Many patients with commercial PPO insurance plans are able to submit receipts for out-of-network reimbursement, and we provide the documentation you need for that process. HSA and FSA payments are accepted. We are unable to see patients with Medicare or Medicaid as their primary insurance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to do an internal pelvic exam?

No. An internal exam is optional and only happens if and when it feels right for you. Dr. Alex will explain what it involves and how it may help, and you can choose to opt in or out at any point. Effective treatment can move forward either way.

Can I attend pelvic health sessions during my period?

Yes. There is no medical reason to cancel a session because of your menstrual cycle. Sessions can be modified as needed for your comfort.

Do you treat men for pelvic health concerns?

Yes. Dr. Alex provides gender-inclusive pelvic health care and has specific expertise in male pelvic floor dysfunction, chronic prostatitis, and recovery following prostate cancer treatment.

Can I bring someone with me to my appointment?

Yes. You are welcome to bring a support person if that helps you feel more comfortable. Just let Dr. Alex know ahead of time.

Do I need a referral?

No referral is required to schedule an evaluation. Florida is a direct-access state, which means you can begin physical therapy without a physician referral.

However, Florida law limits physical therapy without a referral to 30 consecutive calendar days for any condition not previously assessed by a practitioner of record. After that, if you need to continue care, we'll need a signed plan of care or referral from a physician, advanced practice registered nurse (ARNP), chiropractor, podiatrist, or dentist. You must have a medical provider who provides you either with a referral to PT or who is willing to sign the plan of care.

If your insurance plan requires a referral for OON reimbursement, please ensure your referral is placed before scheduling an appointment.
