Your first session is designed for you to feel heard, supported, and empowered. During this time, we’ll:
Talk through your story: Review your medical history, goals, and what matters most to you
Observe your movement: Assess posture and how your body moves
Check in on key areas: External assessment of your abdomen, back, hips, and pelvis
Discuss internal exam options: Determine whether an internal pelvic exam might be helpful (more on that below)
You’ll leave with personalized education and a treatment plan you can start right away. You are welcome to bring a support person if that makes you feel more comfortable; just let Alex know ahead of time.
-
Only if it feels right for you! Internal pelvic exams (vaginal and/or rectal) provide very helpful insight into the function of your pelvic floor muscles and surrounding structures, but they are entirely optional.
During your session, I will:
Explain what an internal exam involves
Discuss how it may or may not be helpful for your symptoms
Honor your preferences, boundaries, and comfort
You always get to choose. You can opt in or out at any time, and we’ll continue with effective care regardless.
-
Yes! You can absolutely attend pelvic health sessions during your menstrual cycle. Your sessions can be modified if you’re experiencing heavier flow, cramping, or other symptoms, but there’s no medical reason to cancel. Your treatment can be adjusted as needed to ensure your comfort.
-
Your session begins with a conversation about your cancer journey, treatments, current physical needs, and what matters most to you. During this session, we’ll also:
Assess posture, strength, mobility, balance, sensation, and more to get a complete picture of your body’s function
Evaluate scar tissue and/or radiation fibrosis
Assess any swelling or lymphedema
Address pelvic floor function if treatments have affected bladder, bowel, or sexual health
Every session is customized to your energy level, stage of treatment or survivorship, and personal comfort, so you can feel supported, safe, and empowered in your care.

In Florida, you can begin physical therapy without a physician referral thanks to direct access laws. This means you can schedule your evaluation and start treatment right away.
However, Florida law limits physical therapy without a referral to 30 consecutive calendar days. After that, if you need to continue care for a medical condition, we’ll need a signed plan of care or referral from a physician, advanced practice registered nurse (ARNP), chiropractor, podiatrist, or dentist. You must have a medical provider who provides you either with a referral to PT or who is willing to sign the plan of care.
Wellness services are exempt from this requirement, as they are not considered medical care.
-
Physical therapy sessions treat a specific concern (like incontinence, lymphedema, or pain) and include a clinical assessment and a treatment plan. These may be eligible for out-of-network (OON) reimbursement.
Wellness visits support general health and are not considered medically necessary. These visits are not covered by insurance and don’t include formal medical documentation. Examples include, but are not limited to, coaching, education, and guidance healthy habits and overall well-being.
If you’re unsure which path fits your goals, reach out to hello@oncopelvicpt.com and I’m happy to guide you.

Yes! Many patients appreciate the flexibility of virtual care—especially during busy times, post-op recovery, or if they live outside Jacksonville. Virtual visits are available for most diagnoses, except for lymphedema and lipedema, allowing me to assess your movement, guide you through exercises or self-care strategies, and answer any questions you have.
Before your first telehealth session, you’ll receive a consent form that explains how telehealth visits work, what to expect, and how your privacy is protected.
Telehealth is effective for many conditions, but some limitations exist compared to in-person visits. If a telehealth session limits proper evaluation or treatment, I’ll let you know so you can schedule an in-person appointment.
For telehealth visits, you will not need to undress on screen or during the session. If indicated, I will guide you through external and self-assessment tools in a private and respectful manner.
All telehealth sessions use secure, HIPAA-compliant platforms, and your records are protected in accordance with federal and state laws.
